Paithalmala or Vaithalmala is a hill station in the Kannur district. With an altitude of 4000 feet bove sea level, it is the highest peak in Kannur. Paithalmala is located in the Western Ghat mountain ranges, which runs parallel to the western coast of India, and is situated near Kerala-Karnataka border.

These Mountain Ranges are renowned for their rich bio-diversity. The nearest town is Kudiyanmala and the nearest bus stop is Pottanplavu. The Muzzhapilangad Drive-in Beach at Kannur is one referred to with many superlatives- as the longest drive-in beach in the whole of India, as one of the cleanest beaches of Kannur and most importantly, as one of the best drive-in beaches that the entire Asian continent has to offer. The whole concept of drive-in beaches is that you can drive right on the sandy shores of the beach- it is not very often that you get to drive along a 4 km long shoreline that offers an open road with no traffic and a stunning view.

There is a local market close to the bay that sells the fresh catch from the sea.

Located on the tranquil hilly area of the Western Ghats, Kottiyoor is a village in Kannur District. The festival at the Kottiyoor temple is unique as it takes place in a dense forest where the ambiance is enhanced by tall trees and the gorgeous Bavali River. The festival involves two temples which are situated on the opposite banks of River Bavali – Akkare Kottiyoor and Ikkare Kottiyoor. The annual Kottiyoor festival is celebrated for twenty-eight days during the months of May and June.

Kottathalachi Mount is a famous Christian pilgrim center in north Kerala. It is located at around 2500 feet above the sea level. On Good Friday of 1958, the holy cross was installed at “Kottathalachi Mala” by Fr. Mathew Mannuramparambil. Since then the first Sunday after Easter is being celebrated here by thousands of pilgrims every year. At present, there is a road facility until the hill basin. Kottathalachi is known as the “Malayattoor of Malabar”.

This hill is a storehouse of rare and precious medicinal herbs. This hill is also the home to many rare birds and butterflies.

St. Angelo’s Fort (also known as Kannur Fort or Kannur Kotta), is a fort facing the Arabian Sea, situated 3 km from the town of Kannur.

St. Angelo’s Fort was built in 1505 by Dom Francisco de Almeida, the first Portuguese Viceroy of India and is on the Arabian sea about 3 km from Kannur town. It was attacked in vain by the local Indian ruler in the Siege of Cannanore (1507).
